What is KidUpStory and how does it work?

KidUpStory uses your child's photo and name to create AI-generated stories with personalized illustrations. Record your voice (or grandma/dad's voice) to narrate the story in your own voice. Read on screen, listen with audio, or order as a printed book delivered worldwide.

Is my child's photo safe?

Yes. Photos are used only for illustration generation, sent via 15-minute signed URLs to AI services, then access closes. Photos are never shared with ad systems. We are COPPA compliant (children under 13 data protection); you can delete your child's data anytime.

Where is voice recording stored, for how long?

Voice recordings are stored encrypted on our servers. For cloning, sent only to your chosen service (ElevenLabs/MiniMax) during processing; cloned voice is deleted when you delete it. You can remove voices anytime from settings.

What age range is it for?

4-12 is our target. When creating a story you select age range; AI adjusts vocabulary, sentence length, and complexity to age. Under 13 requires parental consent (COPPA).

How many languages can I create stories in?

12 languages with full support: Turkish, English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Hindi. Both written and audio narration in all languages.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Sign up to get welcome credits to create your first story free. You can also buy one-time credit packages (10/30/50/100/250/500 credits) without subscription — no commitment required.

Where do printed books ship?

Worldwide via Lulu Print partner. 3 formats (A4 portrait, A4 landscape, square 21×21cm), saddle stitch binding. Average 7-14 business days delivery with tracking number.

Can others read my story?

Only via private link you share. Pro subscription lets you create private links or shelves with optional password. Stories never appear in public search — only those with the link can access.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes, anytime. After cancellation you keep Pro features until the period ends, no auto-renewal. Refund: full refund within first 14 days if not satisfied.

How is my child used as a character?

When you add a family member, the photo is given to AI as reference. Character consistency is maintained — the same child's face appears on every page. Name, age and interests feed into the story plot.

Which AI models are used?

OpenAI GPT-5.1 for stories, Google Nano Banana 2 (via Replicate) for illustrations, ElevenLabs v3 and MiniMax for voice cloning. All current state-of-the-art models optimized for children's content.

What is COPPA and why does it matter?

COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) is the US federal law protecting personal data of children under 13. Since we send your child's photo/voice/name to AI services, you must give verifiable parental consent. When you request account deletion, all child data is permanently deleted within 30 days.

Can personal data be deleted?

Yes. From Settings > COPPA Management you can delete child data, voice recordings and illustrations with one click. To delete the entire account: Settings > Delete Account → 30-day recovery window then permanent deletion.

How does the credit system work?

Credits are deducted per story page: 1 credit (Standard quality) or 2 credits (Premium quality). Pro subscription auto-loads monthly credits. You can also buy one-time packages: 10/30/50/100/250/500 credits.

Can I buy as a gift?

Yes — buy a subscription or credit package as a gift. Printed books can be shipped directly to the recipient with the child's name on the cover and a personalized "With love for ..." message on the first page.
